What is the difference between ? and *?

? (or _ or a dot) is exactly one unknown letter. * is any number of letters, including none.

Can I search for 5-letter words with a certain letter in a certain spot?

Yes, type a 5-character pattern such as ??a?? to find every 5-letter word with A in the middle.

Which dictionary do you use?

ENABLE, a public-domain list of about 173,000 English words used by many word games. It is close to, but not the same as, the official Scrabble or Words With Friends dictionaries, so check a borderline word in your game before you play it.
